A Second US Number
That Passes Bank
& Zelle 2FA.
Trying to separate your business banking, Zelle for Business, Venmo, or Stripe from your personal cell—only to see “VoIP numbers are not supported”? SecondSim US is a genuine CMRS wireless eSIM that passes US bank carrier lookups and receives 5- and 6-digit SMS short codes.
Real CMRS wireless number · Port your Google Voice number in · From $15/mo all-in
Early Warning Services (Zelle) and US bank gateways inspect your number's NPAC Service Provider ID (SPID) before sending any OTP code.
Why Zelle, Chase & Venmo Reject Google Voice and OpenPhone
When a bank says “Please enter a valid US mobile number”, it isn't checking whether your phone can receive texts—it's querying the regulatory classification of your carrier in the US telecom backbone.
The CMRS Wireless Mandate
Zelle is operated by Early Warning Services, LLC (EWS), co-owned by JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, PNC, Truist, and U.S. Bank. Under EWS rules, any phone number enrolled as a Zelle token (personal or Zelle for Small Business) must be a regulated US Commercial Mobile Radio Service (CMRS) wireless line. EWS blocks VoIP numbers and runs periodic NPAC sweeps that de-enroll numbers hosted on Google Voice or OpenPhone.
Why Bank OTP Codes Never Arrive
US banks dispatch 2FA codes over dedicated 5- and 6-digit CTIA SMS Short Codes. Before sending a code, fraud gateways (LexisNexis ThreatMetrix, TransUnion/Neustar, Socure, Plaid) query your number's Operating Company Number (OCN). If carrier.type returns voip or landline, the bank either blocks enrollment or silently drops the short-code SMS.
Stripe, Venmo & Government Portals
Under USA PATRIOT Act Customer Identification Program (CIP) rules and NIST SP 800-63B digital identity standards (used by IRS ID.me and Login.gov), financial platforms verify that a phone number belongs to a physical wireless subscriber rather than an anonymous virtual VoIP app.
US Banks, Fintechs & Portals Tested
How virtual VoIP apps compare against a genuine SecondSim US cellular eSIM across major US banking and identity platforms.
| Platform / Institution | Verification Method | VoIP Apps (Google Voice, OpenPhone, Burner) | SecondSim US eSIM |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zelle & Zelle for Small Business | Early Warning Services (EWS) NPAC/SPID check + Short Code OTP | ✗ Blocked (EWS requires CMRS wireless line) | ✓ Eligible & Verified (CMRS Wireless) |
| JPMorgan Chase (Personal & Ink Business) | 5-Digit Short Code SMS + Real-time line-type lookup | ✗ Rejected (“Mobile number required”) | ✓ Instant Short Code Delivery |
| Bank of America & Wells Fargo | EWS / Neustar carrier lookup + Short Code 2FA | ✗ Blocked on wire transfers & Zelle | ✓ Instant Short Code Delivery |
| Capital One, Citi & American Express | Carrier subscriber match + Short Code OTP | ✗ Unreliable / Silently Dropped | ✓ Passes Carrier Check |
| Venmo & Cash App | Non-VoIP CMRS line-type check (`carrier.type == mobile`) | ✗ Hard Blocked on signup & login | ✓ Verified Mobile Line |
| Stripe, Square, Mercury & Relay | Merchant KYB / 2FA SMS & payout verification | ✗ High Risk / Flagged on new accounts | ✓ Clean Business KYB Verification |
| IRS, SSA & ID.me / Login.gov | NIST SP 800-63B wireless MNO check | ✗ Fails Automated Check (forces video call) | ✓ Passes Wireless Check |
Each financial institution sets and may update its own verification policies. SecondSim is an independent telecommunications provider and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Zelle, Early Warning Services, JPMorgan Chase, or any listed institution.

Why does Zelle say my Google Voice or OpenPhone number is not a valid US mobile number?+
Zelle is operated by Early Warning Services, LLC (EWS), co-owned by JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, PNC, Truist, and U.S. Bank. Under EWS network rules, any phone number enrolled with Zelle (personal or Zelle for Small Business) must be an active US Commercial Mobile Radio Service (CMRS) wireless number. Because Google Voice, OpenPhone, Sideline, and Burner are classified as Wireline/VoIP in the NPAC, EWS blocks them.
Can I keep my personal Zelle on my main number and run business Zelle on my SecondSim eSIM?+
Yes! Zelle allows you to enroll different US mobile numbers with different bank accounts. You can keep your personal mobile number linked to your personal checking account, and enroll your SecondSim US business eSIM number with your business checking account (such as Chase Ink Business, Bank of America Business, or Wells Fargo Business) on the exact same phone.
Can I enroll my existing Google Voice number in Zelle if I port it to SecondSim US?+
Yes. When you port your Google Voice or OpenPhone number onto a SecondSim US eSIM, the NPAC updates your number's Service Provider ID (SPID) and line classification from VoIP/wireline to CMRS wireless. Once downstream banking directories refresh (typically 24 to 72 hours after porting), your number passes EWS and bank 2FA checks.
Can I receive US bank 2FA texts while traveling outside the United States?+
Yes. With Wi-Fi Calling enabled on your SecondSim US eSIM (or over cellular data from a local travel SIM), you can receive US bank 2FA short codes and OTP texts anywhere in the world.
