A Second Business
Number on iPhone.
With Blue Bubbles.

Every VoIP app—Google Voice, OpenPhone, Sideline, Burner—traps your business texts inside a separate app with green SMS bubbles. Because SecondSim is a real cellular eSIM in your iPhone's baseband, your business number works natively inside Apple Messages (blue bubbles) and FaceTime.

Why It Matters in the US

Why VoIP Apps Are Locked Out of Apple iMessage

In the US—where iPhone holds over 70% share among high-earning consumers and corporate buyers—texting a client from an unknown number in a green SMS bubble looks like an automated marketing blast.

01 / Apple Baseband Handshake

How iMessage Verifies Numbers

When you toggle on iMessage, iOS sends a hidden, cryptographically signed SMS from your iPhone's cellular modem directly to Apple's Identity Service (IDS) gateway. Apple verifies the carrier eSIM's IMSI/ICCID and binds your +1 number to your Secure Enclave certificate. Software VoIP apps have zero access to the cellular modem and can never register with Apple IDS.

02 / Client Trust & Reply Rates

Blue Bubbles Signal a Real Person

For realtors, wealth advisors, recruiters, attorneys, and founders, a blue iMessage bubble immediately signals a real professional on an iPhone—giving you typing indicators, read receipts, full-resolution PDFs and property photos, Tapbacks, and instant FaceTime calls from the same thread.

03 / Zero Extra Data Cost

Uses Your Primary Line's 5G & Wi-Fi

Because iMessage and FaceTime run over the internet once activated, your SecondSim eSIM only needs voice and SMS to maintain your Apple IDS registration. All your blue-bubble messages and FaceTime calls travel over your existing Wi-Fi or your primary carrier's data plan.

iOS 17 & iOS 18 Setup Guide

How to Set Up a Second iMessage Number on Your iPhone

Every US iPhone 14, 15, and 16 is eSIM-only and built to run two active eSIMs side-by-side (and iPhone XR–13 support Dual SIM as well). Setup takes about 60 seconds.

Step 01 · Install eSIM

Tap to install in Settings › Cellular

Tap the 1-click install link in your SecondSim confirmation email (or open Settings › Cellular › Add eSIM). Make sure your iPhone shows “No SIM restrictions” under Settings › General › About › Carrier Lock.

Step 02 · Label Lines

Label Personal vs. Business

When iOS asks you to label your plans, keep your primary carrier (AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile) labeled “Personal” and label your SecondSim eSIM “Business”. iOS shows a clean P or B badge on every call and text.

Step 03 · Data Settings

Keep Cellular Data on Personal

Set Cellular Data to Personal and keep Allow Cellular Data Switching OFF. Your iPhone uses your primary carrier's 5G data and Wi-Fi for all iMessages and FaceTime calls on both numbers.

Step 04 · Enable iMessage

Check both numbers in Send & Receive

On iOS 18, go to Settings › Apps › Messages › Send & Receive (or Settings › Messages › Send & Receive on iOS 17). Under “You can receive iMessages to and reply from”, check both your Personal and Business numbers.

Step 05 · Enable FaceTime

Add your Business line to FaceTime

Open Settings › Apps › FaceTime and check your Business number under “You can be reached by FaceTime at”. You can also lock specific client contacts to Always Use: Business in Apple Contacts.

Why can't Google Voice, OpenPhone, or Sideline send blue iMessage bubbles?+

To register a phone number (rather than an email address) with Apple's Identity Service (IDS) for iMessage and FaceTime, iOS sends a silent, cryptographically signed carrier SMS directly from the iPhone's cellular baseband modem to Apple's activation gateway. VoIP apps run in user-space software and have zero access to the cellular baseband or Apple's Messages app, so they can only send green SMS/MMS messages inside their own separate app.

Do I need a second data plan on my SecondSim eSIM to use iMessage and FaceTime?+

No. Once your SecondSim eSIM registers your business number with Apple's iMessage gateway over cellular SMS, all iMessage texts, high-res photos, voice notes, and FaceTime calls travel over your iPhone's existing Wi-Fi or your primary SIM's 5G/LTE data connection.

Can I silence my Business number at 6 PM while keeping my Personal iMessage active?+

Yes. You can use iOS Focus modes to filter notifications by line, or toggle your Business eSIM off in Settings › Cellular for the weekend with one tap while your Personal line works normally.

Does this work on US eSIM-only iPhones (iPhone 14, 15, and 16)?+

Yes. All US iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16 models are eSIM-only and support Dual Active eSIMs (two eSIMs active simultaneously). iPhone 13 also supports two active eSIMs, and iPhone XR, XS, 11, and 12 support one physical nano-SIM plus one active eSIM.
